Hands-On Writing Workshop for Grantmakers: Philanthropy New York

October 6 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

You want your emails and grant reports to be clear, understandable, and easy to read, even when you’re writing about sensitive issues or complex scientific topics. But making your writing easy to read can be hard.

How do you write concisely without sacrificing important detail? How do you write accurately without using jargon? How do you provide scannable features so readers can select the sections they want to read when (really) you’d prefer they read every word you’ve written?

Join our facilitator and plain language advocate, Leslie O’Flahavan, in a hands-on workshop that will help you write, so people know what you want, do what you ask, and find the information they need. These plain language writing skills will help prepare you to take on new writing projects as your work changes and your career advances.

What you will learn:

  • How to write with clarity, muscle, and energy – and why it matters right now
  • How to convey your main message and write scannable content
  • The most common writing mistakes people make – and how to avoid them
  • How to build stronger writing skills for whatever comes your way
